Katarina Witt began to ice skate at the age 5 years. Then, her talent were evident and she was accepted to Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. Her coach Jutta was also there. Witt made her breakthrough season in 1982 when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Since then, Witt's elegance and grace have caught all the attention of people. Olympic Success at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating following a heatedly-contested competition. Then, four years after her win, she managed to take home an even competitive race. Her free skate was a loss, but the gold medal was awarded to her because of the performances she made at both mandatory figures (short program) and mandatory figures. Witt was the first woman after Sonja Haenie who was the winner of a second time in figure skating. Hall of Fame Witt had a great deal of success in her acting career however, she returned to her sport to participate in her participation in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Though she failed to get a single medal she delighted fans with finishing seventh. Witt was admitted to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
